Council Member Brown was elected to the city council in November 2021.  She previously served on the Comprehensive Plan Strike Force, the Board of Adjustment, and as a volunteer Municipal Judge in the late 1990's.

Brook Brown is a licensed Texas attorney.  She retired from active law practice in 2017, having been an equity partner in the Austin law firm McGinnis Lochridge LLP for more than thirty-five years and held the distinction as the firm's first female lawyer, hired in 1976.  She specialized in Administrative Law, and spent the majority of her legal career working on behalf of utility clients before state regulatory agencies, state and federal courts, and the Texas Legislature.  She was recognized by the Texas Telephone Association in 1995 with the President's Citation, and was honored by the Travis County Women Lawyers Association in 2017 with the Pathfinder Award.

While working her way through law school, Brown was employed at the Texas Capitol as Administrative Aide to State Representative Frank Calhoun.  That experience plus her utility practice provided the background needed for her representation of the Texas Telephone Association in legislative matters before the Texas Legislature for more than a decade.

Brook Brown has lived in Rollingwood since 1980.  She is a step-mom, step-grandmother, and god-mother and her hobbies include travel, hiking, hunting and fishing.  She has previously served as Senior Warden and Vestry member at St. David's Episcopal Church, is a supporter and volunteer with Girls' Empowerment Network (GEN), and active supporter of Austin PBS and a member of its Producer's Circle.  She is also a member of the State Bar of Texas and Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.

Brown holds a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Texas at Austin in Government and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas School of Law.
