Always check local water restrictions before performing work on your pool. Contact the Public Works Department before draining your pool to prevent concerns of broken waterlines and chemical.
To check for a water leak, first make sure that no appliances are running, such as a dishwasher or washing machine. Then, lift the lid on your water meter, if the pyramid, or star icon on your meter is spinning, you have a leak somewhere in your system. (Note: Most water meters are located in the front yard, but some are located in the rear of the property).
Most water leaks are caused by either irrigation system problems, or auto-fill systems on swimming pools. In certain cases, leaks will only be able to be detected when the irrigation system, or auto-fill is running. These leaks are particularly difficult to detect. Alerting your plumber or irrigation specialist of this information may assist them in finding and repairing your leak.
