Proposed MoPac South Expansion

This page was created per City Council direction to house letters and information regarding the proposed South MoPac Expansion. Since the proposed project was announced, which involves identifying a mobility solution for an 8-mile stretch of MoPac (Loop 1) from Cesar Chavez Street to Slaughter Lane, the Rollingwood City Council has been actively involved in tracking the proposed solutions and their projected impacts on the City of Rollingwood.  Below is important information related to the proposed South MoPac Expansion and the City's position on the project.

2024 Updates

Technical Working Group Meetings

In May 2024, CTRMA began holding a series of Technical Working Group Meetings to inform the completion of the MoPac South Environmental Assessment. The meetings covered: Air Quality, Utilities, Parkland & Bike/Pedestrian Access, Water Quality/Quantity, Cultural & Historic Resources, and Schematic (Operations/Safety). Staff and members of the MoPac South Task Force have been in attendance at these meetings, and the recap meeting is scheduled for ​​Wednesday, June 26, 2024, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. 

While the Technical Working Group meetings have been centered around Alternative 2C, CTRMA has explained that the operational configurations that were originally proposed are still being considered. Simplified depictions of these options can be found on this document, which came from an earlier presentation on the MoPac South website. At the conclusion of the Tehnical Working Group meetings, CTRMA sent out the following summary slides and summary document. the City of Rollingwood submitted these additional comments to the CTRMA MoPac South team.

MoPac South Open House #6

ON November 12, 2024 CTRMA staff held an Open House where they provided an update on the environmental study process and announced the Recommended Build Alternative (Alternative 2c). This open house is also virtual and will be open from November 12, 2024 to December 29, 2024. The virtual open house material can be viewed here. 

MoPac South Expansion Task Force

At the January 19, 2022 regular City Council meeting the City Council voted to create the MoPac South Expansion Task Force, which is charged with developing community engagement within Rollingwood and consensus with neighboring communities in support of Rollingwood's concerns and objectives regarding the expansion of MoPac South. The Task Force will work with the City Council in the review and development of comments on plans for this expansion to ensure that Rollingwood's concerns and comments are heard as these plans advance through the regional transportation authorities. 

The City Council considered applications and made appointments to the Task Force at the Regular City Council meeting on  February 16, 2022.  Click HERE to see the resolution creating the MoPac South Expansion Task Force.
