Rollingwood PD: Free VIN Etching Event

Etch Event

The Rollingwood Police Department, in combination with Westlake Hills Police Department and Travis County Sheriff’s Department, will be hosting a free VIN etching event for residents in Rollingwood and nearby communities.

VIN etching is a practice in which a vehicles’ unique Vehicle Identification Number, or “VIN” is etched onto the vehicle’s window glass. VIN etching makes a vehicle less desirable to thieves due to the increase in the vehicle’s identification. While VIN etching does not completely dispel all theft and burglary, VIN etching is often the only identifier that ties a stolen vehicle to its owner, when recovered. VIN etching may also provide a reduction in insurance, as well as an increase in resale value of a vehicle.

The etching event will take place on Saturday, July 13th, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Rollingwood Municipal Park (Upper Park) parking lot. Registration is encouraged, but not required.
